Located in Dubbo, Dundullimal Homestead is a stunning example of a rural 1840s homestead complete with main house, outbuildings, chapel and gardens.

We’re looking for an energetic Duty Manager with a track record of delivering high quality, visitor-centric customer service to manage the daily visitor activities at this high-profile property and work with our wonderful team of volunteers to create an experience for our visitors which is both welcoming, inclusive and enables them to get the most out of their visit.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Visitor Experience and Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing and managing the daily operations of Dundullimal admissions, reception and bookings team processes, when the property is open.
  • Coordinating all visitor activities on site including tours, venue hire and events
  • Leading, motivating and supporting the volunteers working onsite, in the delivery of public programs or as guides, front of house, tearoom or event facilitators, to deliver an exceptional visitor experience.
  • Acting as the point of contact and coordination for third party event operators and weekend venue hires on site, including installation and bump out.
  • Carrying out routine administrative tasks including the reconciliation of monies, control of petty cash, stock control and answering public enquiries.
  • Assisting in the tearoom as required.
  • Managing response to incidents as they arise.

About you

  • You’ve run a team of customer-focused staff before and can lead and motivate them to perform at their best.
  • You’ve delivered events before and can manage multi-layered activities with confidence and composure.
  • You will be flexible enough to deal with the myriad of things that comes with operating a historic property that is open to the public.
  • Ideally, you will have had some experience in working with communities, tourism, hospitality or the cultural sector and know your way around a commercial coffee machine.

Completed in 1906 and set in 10 hectares of English style gardens, Saumarez Homestead is a grand Edwardian mansion containing a remarkable collection of 19th century furnishings, fashion and historic objects.

The Visitor Experience & Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of Saumarez Homestead, including the visitor experience. They will also be integral to the development and delivery of a series of key events at the property.

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic, customer focussed Manager to take responsibility for:

  • Oversight and management of the visitor experience at Saumarez Homestead;
  • Promotion of the aspirations of the Trust in ways which are relevant to the broader community;
  • Development and delivery of major events and programs that engage and inspire our visitors and the community;
  • Increasing visitor accessibility and enhancing the quality of presentation and interpretation of the property.

The role requires a high level of coordination and operational management, exceptional people skills, solid financial acumen as well as a deep understanding of what makes a good customer experience across a range of activities.

About you

To deliver this role successfully, you’ll need to have:

  • A keen eye for detail, taking on responsibility for all aspects of the visitor experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering major events and programs;
  • A great track record of leading and motivating volunteers;
  • Strong organisation and planning skills, supporting and delivering all aspects of the visitor experience offer;
  • Experience in producing performance reports (financial, visitation) for management, as required;
  • An understanding of the aims and ethos of the National Trust, in particular the ambition for achieving the financial sustainability of the property.

This is a part-time permanent position for 28 hours per week, including Saturday. The days of working may depend to some degree on property activities, and a high degree of flexibility is desirable.

This is a part-time permanent position for 21 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The days of working may depend to some degree on property activities, and a high degree of flexibility is desirable.

  • Strong organisation and planning skills, supporting and delivering all aspects of the visitor experience offer;
  • Experience in producing performance reports (financial, visitation, collections, and interpretive items) to Senior Properties Manager as required;
  • Ability to coordinate first responders and act as first point of contact for security and other emergency matters as they arise for Dundullimal Homestead;
  • An understanding of the aims and ethos of the National Trust, in particular the ambition for developing the financial sustainability of properties.
